Coop Chamber PH Supports 1st Arangkada NCR Transport Congress

PASAY CITY– The Coop Chamber supports the 1st Arangkada NCR Transport Congress where all Transport Consolidated Entities – Cooperatives and Corporations Nationwide will convene the Largest Event in the Philippines focusing on Auto Parts & Vehicle Expo on June 6, 2024 / at 9:00 AM onwards at Hall A, World Trade Center, Pasay City.

This is a collaborative effort by the National Federation of Transport Cooperative and Arangkada NCR Transport Federation Inc., together with other stakeholders in line with the Public Transport Modernization Program.

The program according to the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board:

“The PUVMP is not merely a vehicle modernization program. It is a comprehensive system reform that will entirely change the public land transportation industry. It features a regulatory reform and sets new guidelines for the issuance of franchises for road-based public transport services. It devolved the function of route planning to the local government units as they are more versed in the terrain and passenger demand within their respective territorial jurisdiction. The LGUs are required under the program to submit their own Local Public Transport Plan (LPTRP) as a pre-requisite for the opening of PUV franchises within their jurisdiction.”

The Public Transport Modernization program, although not perfect at this point, aims to offer commuters more efficient and sustainable public transportation options. It also focuses on the future sustainability and environmentally friendly expansion of public transportation in the country. The modernization of jeepneys will result in improved transportation for commuters, technological advancement in the sector, and the implementation of safety measures, among other benefits.

Meanwhile, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), in collaboration with transport cooperatives and other stakeholders, must continue their efforts toward a just and humane modernization program.

“The Cooperative Chamber will continue to advocate for an inclusive transition in the modernization program, ensuring that no one is left behind. This involves addressing the grievances and concerns of the transport sector, including the ongoing consolidation process, high vehicle costs, routes, and terminal issues, among others. After all, the State should ensure the growth of the transport (cooperative) sector for the attainment of economic development and social justice”, as per Mr. Noel D. Raboy, Coop Chamber Chairperson.

This congress will be an excellent opportunity for the sector and the government to continue shaping the future of transportation in the Philippines. The Coop Chamber is fully supportive of the sector and the government agencies in ensuring a viable, sustainable, and progressive public transport modernization program for the benefit of the riding public and the country as a whole.
