PASAY CITY: The Coop Chamber fully supports the Co-op College of the Philippines’s plan, which aims to construct a state-of-the-art building where new leaders will be developed in the cooperative movement.
This facility will also serve as a hub for leaders and members, providing continuing education and opportunities, where they can enhance their skills and knowledge to drive the growth of the cooperative movement.
This is spelled out in the 5th principle of cooperativism which states that:
5) Education, Training, and Information – Cooperatives shall provide education and training for their members, elected and appointed representatives, managers, and employees so that they can contribute effectively and efficiently to the development of their cooperatives.
Education can play a major part in cooperative development. Not only will it promote the cooperative identity, its values, and principles, but moreover “education could break the chain of ignorance and empower people to become active agents of social change”[1].
Build With Us thus comes into the fold given the necessity of building a college campus that will cater to everyone who wants to embrace the theory and practice of cooperative ideals and values towards cooperative excellence.
With this, at the Co-operative College of the Philippines Educational Forum and CLIMBS Life and General Insurance Cooperative General Assembly, held on April 26, 2024, in the Marriot Hotel in Pasay City, the Co-op College was able to raise 𝟐𝟎 𝐌𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧 from the following cooperatives:
[1] Paulo Freire – a Brazilian educator and philosopher who was the leading advocate of critical pedagogy where education is imperative to achieve democratization and social justice.
This initiative also seeks to strengthen cooperatives and their ecosystem.
This is the beginning of a truly remarkable journey. Thus, the campaign echoed in all corners of the country. Cooperatives that want to be part of this historic endeavor are invited to join and actively participate in building a future that we, in the cooperative movement, would like – a better world to live in.
