MARCH 18, 2024– The Coop Chamber through its Executive Director, Mr. Edwin Phi Bustillos discussed the importance of cooperatives in addressing poverty during the interview in PTV4 – Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon on March 18, 2024, from 12:30NN to 1:00 PM.
The Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon is a program that discusses pressing issues of the country and provides a venue for addressing public queries on certain programs and policies of the government.
Mr. Bustillos explored in greater detail the mandate of cooperatives as stated in the Philippine Constitution as a vehicle for promoting self-reliance and harnessing people power towards the attainment of economic development and social justice.
He also mentioned that cooperatives create jobs (regular and secured jobs) and also through its services and programs, they can create more livelihood activities for their members and in the communities where they operate.
Moreover, Cooperatives have programs and services, such as Life and Property INSURANCE like the one from CLIMBS, health services, agri-support programs from NOVADECI, and loans and credit for more livelihood activities for the members of Holy Cros Savings and Credit Cooperative. There are other services and programs from the cooperatives that help uplift the standard of living of its members and help develop a community.
Program hosts Ms. Chi Atienza and Ms. Niña Corpuz echoed their support that cooperatives indeed have helped many people including the marginalized sectors through the said programs and at the same time are also contributing to the development and welfare of their community and the country as a whole/
At the end of the program, the hosts informed ED Bustillos to keep in touch with the Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon for more developments regarding cooperatives in the country.
